(#17) We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.
my 2022 rules, self-image, principles by ray dalio
I’m not a huge New Years’ Resolution person. I like to create medium term goals, and then break that down into monthly goals. On my good weeks/ months I constantly iterate or change the direction based on how I’m doing. I don’t like the idea of waiting to build momentum or adjust plans.
Anyways, I did create this ‘2022 rules’ ⬆️ list to GAS ME uP last year and have it hooked up on my bathroom mirror.
“We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.”— Rabbi Shemuel ben Nachmani
I believe self-image is one of the most important things we can control. An important reminder to be what you want to attract because self-image is a magnet. Similar vibes and energy always find each other. For example, if the market is down, two different people will process the same thing differently, one may see it as an opportunity to build, network, improve Vs. quit and complain all day.
Book Notes 📚 ‘Principles by Ray Dalio’
Dalio principals:
1.) Don’t confuse what you wish were true with what is really true.
2.) Don’t worry about looking good — worry instead about achieving your goals.
3.) Don’t overweight first-order consequences relative to second- and third-order ones.
4.) Don’t let pain stand in the way of progress.
5.) Don’t blame bad outcomes on anyone but yourself.
✍️ When faced with 2 things that are seemingly at odds, go slowly to figure out how you can have as much of both as possible. There is almost always a good path that you just haven’t figured out yet, so look for it until you find it rather than settle for the choice that is then apparent to you.
✍️ Instead of reacting to Struggles and failures by feeling anxious, frustrated, or overwhelmed, I saw pain as nature’s reminder that there’s something important for me to learn. Encountering pains and finding out what lesson it was teaching became a game to me.
